If you are locked out or a lock has failed, call us at any hour and we come out to your door.
What counts as an emergency?
If you cannot get into your apartment, your building, or your business, we treat it as one. The same goes for a key that snapped off in the cylinder, a mortise lock that seized with the door shut, or a storefront door that will not lock at closing. Tell us where you are and which door it is, and we come out from Amsterdam Avenue.
When do people call us for this?
- The apartment door closed behind you and your keys are inside.
- Your key broke off in the lock.
- The key turns, but the latch or bolt stays where it is.
- A shop or office door will not lock at the end of the night.
- You want a lock changed tonight because someone still has a key.
How do you open the door?
We start with the gentlest way in and only drill when nothing else works. If the lock has to come out, we tell you first, and we can put a new one in on the same visit.
What should I tell you when I call?
Give us the address and apartment number, the door you are stuck at, and the kind of lock if you know it. On most pre-war apartment doors uptown it is a mortise lock, with one tall plate and a handle. If you can, text us a photo of it.
How does the visit go?
We come out with the parts your call and your photo point to. Before we touch anything, we show you what is worn or broken and what we plan to do. When the work is done, we test every lock and key with you before we leave.
Questions we get
Do you come out at night?
Yes. Our phone line is open 24/7, and night lockouts are a normal part of the job.
Will I need to show that I live there?
Yes. We ask for ID or another way to show the place is yours before we open the door. Your super or landlord can vouch for you too.
Can you change the lock after you open the door?
Usually, yes. Tell us on the call and we bring a new lock, or the parts to rekey the one you have.
